The Battle for the 1,000th view featuring: Duane Thor vs. Bret Overdorf

As outfromthewild.com was at 999 views I issued a challenge on facebook to go to my page and comment as quick as possible in order to receive vast accolades and fame for being the 1,000th view. Duane Thor and Bret Overdorf stepped into the ring and battled for the high honor, I was the referee.  Bret while you ultimately lost I want to encourage you with something that my dear friend Teddy Roosevelt once told me,

“The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; whose face is marred by sweat and blood; who strives valiantly…who at worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who have never tasted victory or defeat.” 

I was so inspired by their devotion that the entire struggle is here documented.

Wild Man: Whoever is the next to view outfromthewild.com will give me my 1,000th view. You need to go there and make a comment so I know who you are. I cannot promise riches but I will give you a lot of glory in my mind.

Duane Thor:  comment, comment, comment. Now I’m crossing my fingers !!

Wild Man:  Congratulations to Duane Thor for giving outfromthewild.com its 1,000th view! Duane is there anything you want to say? How does this make you feel?

Duane: Thanks for the heartfelt congrats ! Never did I know or imagine when I was born in Minneapolis a few years ago, that I would be in this position today. I have a tingling sensation, or maybe it’s gas, I’m not sure how to differentiate. Nonetheless, I believe it’s an honor.

Wild Man:  I assume you know that as the 1,000 viewer you are required to tatoo “I was the 1,000th view for outfromthewild.com” on your forehead? I am guessing you are thrilled to be bestowed this honor, as that kind of add placement could take this thing to the next level.

Wild Man to everyone:  Okay here is your challenge: Express how mad you are that Duane Thor had the 1000th view to https://outfromthewild.com/ instead of you. If you are not mad then make something up because the person who gives the best response by midnight Monday will somehow be mentioned in Wild Man’s Monday Post. If nobody accepts this challenge then I will go bang my head against a wall for an entire hour.

Bret Overdorf:  Well Wild Man, I am unbelievably mad at Duane!! He is a glory monger!! I could have set by my computer viewing this site over and over again ( I have it on good authority that Duane did this) but nooooo, I watched once , trying to get comfort from your efforts with Jim and then I did what every good Colts fan should do. I called Jim and tried to put a good word in for you. I’m not sure I got him convinced. He seemed hung up on prior experience. (editors note: See”Wild Man gets rejected By Jim Irsay http://youtu.be/QbIzDGO_CaU) I feel that the honor should really go to whoever could come the closest to the 1,000th hit ( I think I was either # 999 or # 1,001 ).

I do have to say that I hesitated responding, hoping to see a video of you banging your head against the wall for an hour!! That would have been a good Ed Sullivan act ( or maybe you did that one already…).

Wild Man: Thank you for saving me from banging my head into a wall for an hour. I will also say that as of right now you are at the top of the leaderboard with your response. That may or may not be due to the fact that you are so far the only one to take the challenge.

Duane:  Bret, (and Wild Man)
I fight crime and deliver babies, (sometimes simultaneously) and I get accused of hovering over my computer ? Bret, I think there is some unconfessed sin in your life for those statements to be made.
Wild Man is my Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, so of course I want to keep up with his wisdom and musings.
To hit 1,000 is no small feat. Maybe some residual glory should come this man’s way, but it wasn’t sought or solicited. It would mean nothing if that was the fact. I want to be a man of peace, and hopefully the tattoo I’m about to get will be proof of my sincerity.

Wild Man:  Congrats to Bret Overdorf. He accepted my challenge and very aptly won with an excellent response. He will be featured in the Monday post.  Bret gets special points for using the term, “Greed Monger” and because he called Jim Irsay on my behalf. I also extend a thanks to Duane Thor for an excellent rebuttal. And Duane recieves the highest honor for being the 1,000th view.  Bret and Duane, it is your kind of commitment that will enable my story to be told, and help save the Colts season.
